- Why did the colours mix?
- You probably poured the syrup too fast. Gravity and density need time; trickle the syrup down the inside of the glass so it doesn't crash into the juice with force.
- Which tequila should I choose?
- Blanco (silver) tequila, because it has the cleanest, freshest taste and doesn't discolour the drink with yellowish hues like aged varieties.
Classic tequila sunrise
The visual appeal of this cocktail relies on the difference in liquid density (viscosity). The high-sugar grenadine syrup is heavier than the orange juice-tequila mix, so it sinks to the bottom. As it slowly mixes upwards, it creates the characteristic gradient reminiscent of an Arizona sunrise. An iconic drink of the 70s rock and roll era, made world-famous by Mick Jagger.

Instructions
1
✓
Fill the glass completely with ice, right up to the rim.
Tip: Plenty of ice doesn't water down the drink, but keeps it durably cold. Little ice melts faster (heat exchange), making the cocktail watery.
2
✓
Pour the tequila over the ice, followed by the orange juice.
Tip: Use chilled orange juice. If the juice is cold, the ice will start melting even slower.
3
✓
Stir the orange juice and tequila gently with a long spoon, without breaking the ice.
Tip: Stirring homogenises the alcohol and fruit juice so every sip tastes the same (before the syrup is added).
4
✓
Tilt the glass slightly and trickle the grenadine very slowly down the inside wall of the glass.
Tip: The wall of the glass slows down the liquid's speed, allowing the heavy syrup to settle nicely at the bottom without immediately mixing (layering).
5
✓
Wait a few seconds for the syrup to settle at the bottom, then pin the orange slice and cherry to the rim.
Tip: Part of the visual experience is the contrast: red bottom, yellow top, and vibrant garnish.
