Sesame Crusted Roasted Tofu

Many complain that tofu is boring. The secret is marinating and coating. Cornflour and sesame seeds create an extra crispy crust around the soft interior, sealing in the tasty ginger marinade.

Instructions

1

Wrap the tofu in kitchen paper and place a weight (e.g. a tin) on it for 15 minutes.

Tip: Pressing removes water so the tofu can absorb the marinade (like a sponge).
2

Cube it and toss in a mixture of soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger. Let stand for 10 minutes.

Tip: This provides the base flavour.
3

Mix the cornflour and sesame seeds. Coat the wet tofu cubes in it.

Tip: The cornflour forms an instantly crispy layer upon contact with heat.
4

Fry in hot oil in a pan until golden brown on all sides.

Tip: Don't move it too much, let the crust harden.

Recipe FAQ

Why didn't it get crispy?
You didn't press enough water out, or the oil wasn't hot enough. Wet tofu steams, it doesn't fry.
