Sex on the Beach

An icon of the 80s disco era. Although the name is provocative, its success lies in its very accessible flavour profile: the neutrality of the vodka allows the marriage of peach (schnapps) and tart cranberry to shine. Sweet, fruity, and dangerously potent, as the taste of the alcohol remains almost hidden.

Ingredients

Equipment Needed

  • Highball glass
  • Bar spoon

Instructions

1

Fill the glass to the top with ice.

Tip: Plenty of ice is a basic requirement here too.
2

Pour over the vodka and the schnapps.

Tip: These are the alcoholic bases.
3

Add the orange juice, and finally the cranberry juice.

Tip: If you are skilful, the red cranberry mixes slightly with the yellow orange, giving a sunset colour.
4

Stir gently and garnish.

Tip: Drink immediately whilst cold.

Recipe FAQ

Why is it sometimes layered?
The density (specific gravity) of the liquids differs. Sugary syrups sink, while alcohol floats. If you pour carefully, you can achieve a beautiful gradient.
