This is 'Virgin Mulled Wine', the alcohol-free, child-friendly alternative to mulled wine. The mix of apple and orange provides the acid-sugar base, and water dilutes the richness to make it more drinkable. The seasoning is the same as mulled wine, so no one misses out on the festive toast.

Instructions

Pour the fruit juices into the saucepan. Toss in the spices (cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg).

Heat slowly. When it is warm, pour in the hot water.

Tip: Adding water helps the drink not to be too cloying (intensely sweet), and makes it more like a tea or punch.

Cook over a low flame for 15 minutes. Stir in the honey and vanilla at the end.

Strain, and serve garnished with a lemon slice.
