- How far in advance can I make it?
- Smörgåstårta is best the next day! It's worth assembling it the night before, but only add the outer garnish (vegetables, egg) just before serving so they stay fresh.
- Can I use other types of bread?
- Yes, but you must cut off the crusts. Toast bread/Sandwich loaf is the most practical due to its shape.

Instructions
Make the base cream: mix the cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise until smooth. Season with salt and white pepper. Divide into three parts (two for the fillings, one for coating).
For the first filling, finely chop the cooked chicken and mix with one portion of the cream. For the second, chop the ham into tiny cubes and mix with the second portion of cream.
Place 4 slices of bread closely together on a tray. Spread thickly with the chicken cream.
Place the next layer of bread on top (stagger them like bricks for stability). Spread with the ham cream. Cover with the final layer of bread.
Coat the top and sides of the cake with the remaining plain cream, as if icing a real cake.
Refrigerate for at least 2 hours (but preferably overnight). Just before serving, decorate with sliced vegetables, egg, and dill.
